Setlist and Program Notes

  1. Bright Moonlight (月光光)

    A lullaby remembered in stillness.

A treasured Cantonese lullaby reimagined as a jazz ballad, with an emphasis on space, tone color, and subtle harmonic movement.

  2. Pouring Rain (落雨大)

A simple melody set into motion.

Originally playful, this piece is reinterpreted in a bossa nova style. The steady groove introduces a sense of flow and gentle movement.

  3. The Voice of a Wanderer (浪子心声)

Presented with lyrical phrasing and a relaxed pulse, this bossa nova setting allows the melody to shift delicately within the groove.

  4. Hello Feeling (哈啰感觉)

Arranged in a jazz-pop style, this piece emphasizes lightness and a flowing groove. The solo section shifts into a double swing feel, introducing contrast and rhythmic lift within the overall texture.

  5. Only You Don’t Know (只有你不知道)

Reimagined in a double swing setting, this arrangement highlights forward motion and rhythmic clarity. The melody is shaped through phrasing and articulation, creating space for interaction within the ensemble.

  6. If (假如)

Reimagined as a jazz ballad, this piece centers on tone, space, and emotional restraint. The melody unfolds slowly, guided by subtle harmonic movement.

  7. Blame It on Your Beauty (怪你过分美丽)

Reimagined in a swing setting, this arrangement emphasizes phrasing, timing, and ensemble interaction. The melody becomes a starting point for rhythmic interpretation and improvisation.

* The performance will also include two additional pieces not listed in the program.

Final note

This performance is part of a practice-based exploration that weaves together creation and jazz interpretation.

Presented as a live recording session, the set serves as a collaborative space where musical ideas are developed through interaction, listening, and real-time decision-making within the ensemble, building on concepts introduced previously.

Ultimately, this project reimagines familiar music by weaving together collaboration, improvisation, and jazz language to create fresh perspectives.
